UNDERSTANDING THE SPIRIT AND INTENT OF TREATY

The inaugural United in Treaty gathering was held at the Edmonton Inn in Edmonton, Alberta. This landmark event was designed to bring together First Nation leaders, scholars, Elders, and community members from across Canada in a shared space of learning, dialogue, and unity.

The purpose of United in Treaty is to inform and educate participants on the foundational significance of Treaties in Canada, while highlighting the critical role that Treaty Elders and knowledge keepers play in guiding our understanding. Through meaningful presentations and panel discussions, attendees will explore the meaning and intent of Treaties, the implications of current provincial separation narratives, and the urgent need to uphold and assert First Nations’ inherent rights.

With a focus on collective responsibility and action, this event will also emphasize how First Nations can engage with internationally recognized systems and frameworks to protect and advance rights related to land, resources, water, and airspace. United in Treaty aims to empower Nations through knowledge, connection, and strategic advocacy rooted in Treaty understandings and First Nation law.
