Stephanie Alexis
Stephanie Alexis is a member of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Treaty No. 6 Territory. She was born and raised on the Alexis Indian Reserve #133 (Wakâmne, Alberta) by her maternal grandparents, who instilled in her traditional values and a commitment to God, family, and community. Her Ceremonial name, Mini Aweya Wiya (Woman Who Holds the Water), reflects her spiritual path and dedication to nurturing, renewing, and empowering others.
With more than 25 years of experience in First Nation governance, Stephanie works closely with Elders to preserve knowledge and support intergenerational healing. She is known for leading culturally grounded strategic processes that honour intergenerational knowledge, upholds Treaty rights, and advances Nation building. A skilled facilitator and writer, she integrates ceremony, community voice, and traditional values into every project she undertakes. Her career includes serving as a Project Manager, Lands Consultation Officer, Treaty Researcher and Finance Advisor for her community, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Education Policy Analyst with the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations, and contributing to regional and national initiatives with the Assembly of First Nations.
Stephanie lives with her husband, Chief Tony Alexis, in Wakâmne. Together, they raised three children and one grandson.
