Carolyn Buffalo

Carolyn Buffalo is a dedicated Nehiyewskwew lawyer from the Great Nation of the Plains Cree in Treaty 6 Territory. Called to the Alberta Bar in 1996, she is a member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta and has built a distinguished career in Indigenous law and the protection of Treaty rights. She has served as in-house counsel and policy analyst with Yellowhead Tribal Council, former Chief and Councillor of Montana Cree Nation, and has held leadership roles with numerous organizations, including the Indigenous Bar Association and Maskwacis Justice Society.

Carolyn was a member of the legal team in Victor Buffalo v. Canada and is a guardian plaintiff in the historic Moushoom v. Canada class action settlement on child welfare and Jordan’s Principle. A proud mother of three and married to Richard Jackson of Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Carolyn continues to advocate for First Nations families, education, and justice.
